TUCSON - A mother of five behind bars charged with 2 counts of Child Abuse.

23-year-old Kiyana Higgins bond is set at $250,000. Tucson Police say
the charges are the result after her one year old daughter died and her
three year old son is hospitalized in serious condition.

Kiyana Higgins has faced similar charges in the past. According to court
documents she was arrested by Tucson police and charged with three
counts of child abuse in 2009. She was later acquitted of all charges.

Friday her attorney waived Higgins' right to appear before the camera in
video court. The judge read the charges and set bond.

Sgt. Matt Ronsdadt says, "There were signs of physical abuse. Physical
abuse can take on different forms. In this case it was physical and
violent in terms of care or lack of care children were receiving."

This is turning out to be a difficult case emotionally for the
investigators. "The detectives have to be able to set aside their
personal feelings and work this case to provide the best justice that
they can for in this case a one year old little girl that's now dead."

Child protective services has temporary custody of the remaining

An autopsy is being conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner's,
depending on what they find, the mother could be facing additional charges.
