Video of a man choking an elderly blind woman before stealing her jewelry
in Little Tokyo has been released by Los Angeles Police Department,
seeking the public’s help to catch the suspect.

The 68-year-old retiree was pushing her walker down 1st Street between Los
Angeles and San Pedro streets when a short Hispanic man approached her
from behind and grabbed her throat, according to a statement by the LAPD.

The incident occurred July 24 around noon in an area police said is not
prone to these kinds of incidences.

“Street robberies are uncommon in the Little Tokyo area, so this one
really stands out,” said Lt. Vernon, commanding officer of the Central
Detective Division. “And this suspect really needs to go to jail.”

The suspect, donning a white shirt, small back pack and backwards baseball
cap, made off with the woman’s gold chain and jade pendant, worth about
$100.

He ran from the scene after a man in a nearby business comes to the
victim’s aid.

Detectives are scouring other video of the area for more images of the
suspect.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Central Detectives
