Tossing Britain Under the Bus

By Arnold Ahlert
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com

On Friday February 4th, British newspaper The Telegraph published what
is arguably one of the most damning indictments of the Obama
administration — or any American administration — in modern history.
According to a Wikileaks document release obtained by the paper, a
"series of classified messages sent to Washington by US negotiators
show how information on Britain's nuclear capability was crucial to
securing Russia's support for the 'New START' deal." In a word, that's
outrageous. What's just as outrageous? As I write this column 24 hours
later, not a single, major American media organization has reported
the story.

This then is the state of America: we are being held in the abominable
grip of an administration which no longer even makes even a cursory
attempt to hide its New World Order, Marxist ambitions. It is one for
which the "special relationship" this country has maintained with our
British cousins for the better part of two centuries, through two
devastating World Wars, right up to their commitment as our staunchest
ally in the war against global jihdism, can now be tossed under the
bus.

This betrayal is apparently an integral part of the so-called "reset
button" by which this administration pursues a fantasy whose
ostensible destination, a "nuclear-free" world, is nothing more than a
facade. The real destination? The abdication of U.S. supremacy in
world where very passing day reveals the utter stupidity of
progressive determination to make this country "one of the bunch,"
instead of the leader of the free world.

In an administration full of misguided apologies for our historical
shortcomings, this may be the most despicable apology of all.

And just as despicable is an American mainstream media, whose role as
government watchdog has become little more than a dim memory. What we
have instead are legions of unquestioning cheerleaders for the
progressive cause. People who can impugn a center-right nation without
the slightest hesitation — or evidence — such as they did when Arizona
Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot, even as they remain
willfully blind to the "more than 1,400 US embassy cables published to
date by the Telegraph, including almost 800 sent from the London
Embassy" as that newspaper reported it.

Let me do their job for them. Aside from the assemblage of
administration thugs willing to sell our most reliable ally down the
river, who knew what, and when did they know it? How many Senate
Democrats were aware, as the Telegraph explained, that "the US agreed
to hand over (to Russia) the serial numbers of Trident missiles it
transfers to Britain?" How many Republicans? The second question is
far more important. The Democrats are a party seamlessly allied to
progressive causes, no matter how detrimental they are to America's
well-being. The Republicans, on the other hand, are supposed to be the
antidote to that alliance, an antidote for which the American
electorate unambiguously expressed its preference last November.

If Democrat Senators were privy to this information and decided to
approve the START treaty regardless, such behavior is tragic, but
predictable. If Republicans were aware, and still provided the
necessary votes to put this treaty over the top, that is a stain on
their collective souls. It is a stain so egregious that those
Americans who still believe this nation is exceptional should
seriously consider the formation of a third political party.

But it doesn't stop there. Any Senator who would "go along to get
along" with this odious combination of Russian appeasement and British
betrayal needs to be outed for public condemnation. In a better world
such behavior — which might be construed as treasonous were it not for
the fact that betraying an ally does not qualify as a proper
definition of the word — would be the leading story of every reputable
news organization in the country.

That they are missing in action speaks volumes.

And now it is too late. On Saturday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham
Clinton exchanged the ratification papers with Russian Foreign
Minister Sergey Lavrov. Mrs. Clinton referred to it as a "milestone in
our strategic partnership." You know what else is a "milestone?" The
Obama administration's betrayal of Great Britain in order to get the
deal done. The same Obama administration more than willing to "meddle"
in Egypt in order to provide the virulent Muslim Brotherhood with its
best opportunity to turn that country into an Islamic state, even as
it turned its back on pro-American Iranian freedom-fighters when they
were fighting and dying to rid that country of the same disease. The
same Obama administration willing to turn America into a second-rate
power in order to be "fair." Between now and 2012, Americans need to
do some serious soul-searching, as do the dwindling number of the
media news reporters who still maintain an ounce of integrity. If
Senators on either side of the aisle have knowingly sold out Britain
to "reset" our relationship with Russia — the same Russia which
steadfastly maintains business relationships with Iran — Americans
need to know about it. Americans themselves have to decide how high a
price they are willing to pay for a "peace" as illusory as the one
which immediately preceded WWll, the last paean to progressive folly.
The one in which the theory of "peace in our time" gave way to the
reality of 60 million deaths. The Obama administration has once again
revealed its contempt for American exceptionalism and those allies who
recognize how critical maintaining it is. Who in the Senate knowingly
went along? And if they didn't, who among them are willing to demand a
re-vote on the START treaty? Who will give this story the coverage it
deserves? Who is willing to demand that the "special relationship" be
restored? Who in the media and/or the government is still willing to
stand and up be counted? Shame on those who would betray our allies —
and shame on those who would avert their gaze while it happens.

We do get the impression here in the UK that Obama has little regard
for past & present loyalties, especially re towards us.
That's hopefully, not usually our way.
If continued, however, he might find that attitude returned.
Think on't.

The United States is divided. The Left doesn't care about the UK. The
Right is more likely to care, but has little to say about foreign
policy.
