Tyrannosnowus Wrecks

I'm not scared of normal storms, but I do rabbit easily at storms of a
magnitude to make me either dead or seriously miserable.

Kansas City is currently in the midst of one of the largest single
snowfalls in its history. I realize some of you are used to heapin'
helpings of the white stuff, but for us here, it's big.

I freaked at the forecast and took a personal day off, and then learned my
call center workplace shut down at 12:30 pm.

The snow intensified at about 3 pm. I semi-freaked at 4:30 at the wild
blizzardy mess, and drew all my blinds so I wouldn't have to see how much
was falling -- and accumulating.

Just now, I heard a whump! sound, and felt a vibration like an adult
jumping off a step-stool. I peeked around a blind slat onto my balcony,
and saw a mass of snow had slid off the roof. My balcony's the top floor,
so that's where it landed. Much better to stress the balcony than the
roof, in my opinion; I don't want the ceiling caving in, but I could live
if the balcony broke off the side of the building.

That's all part of the yeti's plan.

Sweet. My husband left central Texas to drive home this morning.
Last I heard he was slogging through Oklahoma at about 50mph.

Get the roads in Kansas City clear for tomorrow, OK? Thanks.

urm, if the balcony broke, wouldn't it take the wall down too if there
is too much snow on it?

urm, if the balcony broke, wouldn't it take the wall down too if there

Depends on how the balcony is affixed. If it is simply lagged to the
side of the building then the worst wall damage might be just some tear-
out on the exterior.

An open wall is still better than getting squished by roof trusses.
