Inmate attacked sex offender, gets year

An inmate who assaulted a child sex offender in the Frederick County
Adult Detention Center has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Twenty-year-old Denver J. Owens was sentenced on Tuesday. He pleaded
guilty to second-degree assault in the June attack on 19-year-old
Jonathan M. Bonita.

Owens punched Bonita in the head twice shortly after arriving at the jail.

Bonita had pleaded guilty in June to second-degree sex offense for
having a 4-year-old girl perform a sex act about two years ago. He is
serving an 18-month sentence.

Bonita spoke at Owens' sentencing, and said he was tried of being
harassed by other inmates. He is in protective custody.
