HALLANDALE BEACH
A driver barreled her way through a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade,
nearly running over children and police officers and injuring at least one
person as she sped away, authorities said.

Latricia Samuel, 37, of Hollywood, ended up on Interstate 95, where
she crashed near the Pembroke Road exit, tying up the northbound lanes
for several hours.
She was arrested on 13 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

About 11 a.m., a police officer told Samuel she couldn't park her car
near the 900 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue, the parade's main
route, according to a police report.

Defiant, she sped south on Eighth Avenue and directly into the parade,
which was marching north, officials said.

Several police officers had to jump out of the way to avoid Samuel's
car; three babies in strollers were also almost struck, according to
the police report.

Samuel then headed toward the highway on Hallandale Beach Boulevard as
several police cruisers chased her, authorities said.

Police did not say how Samuel crashed or if she was injured.

At least one person was injured and taken to the hospital, but those
details were not immediately available.
