Should gun owners be held accountable for what their gun does?

In a recent discussion, it was mentioned that many of the problems
with irresponsible use of guns would be solved if society held the
owner of the gun accountable for all damages the gun does.

So if one's gun is used to harm someone or something, that owner is
responsible for all damages including jail time.

It would be up to the owner to control all access to the firearm...no
excuses allowed.

Your opinion?

No more than they should be held liable if some teenager breaks into
their tool shed, steals the gasoline for the lawnmower, and torches
the neighbor's house with it. No more than the local school system
here should have been held liable when a junior-high-age kid broke
into one of their school buildings, stole their ditto fluid (denatured
alcohol) - and burned down that school.

A responsible gun owner will control all access to the firearm. So
yea, in the case of negligence, perhaps the owner should be, but not
in the case of the gun is stolen. It can't be an unlimited liablity.

Could they also be rewarded for the good done with thier gun? Think carefully
before you answer.

God, guns and guts made America great.

Which should tell you all you need to know about Democrats. How can one

Cars kill more people than guns so apply that "logic" to car owners.
Make it up to the owner to control all access to his car. . . no excuses
allowed. If one's car is used to harm someone or something, the car
owner is responsible for all damages including jail time.

Yep, that makes a lot of sense.

Should the owner of a car have to go to jail if he or she lends his or her
car to someone and it gets in an accident? Should the owner of a nail gun go
to jail if someone injures themselves after using it? Why do you really want
to punish gun owners?

I agree. Gun owners SHOULD be held responsible. If their gun is used
in a crime they MUST BE ABLE TO PROOF they took all reasonable care in
locking it up.

Thievery is the issue here , Not guns.

And all access as defined as what. All access to me is in my home . If
someone breaks in and steals it , I report it as stolen. Its done and over.
Thievery by welfare dependant crackheads is the problem. Not where my guns
are at.

Lets hold all welfare recepients responsible for evil irresponsible
parenting. And the government for allowing them to breed while paying them.
Responsible parents wont breed kids into government mandated poverty to be
thieves. And lets put them in prison if their crackhead kids steal
something from somebody else. Then commit a crime with it.

If someone breaks in and I shoot them, you asshats bitch about it.

If someone breaks in and steals something you think its ok because they have
less.

Because their parents were trash .

Inprison the parents.

Problems resolved.

Abortion isnt allowed, But irresponsible parenting is required to collect
welfare checks.

Because their parents were irresponsible trash .

Inprison the thieves parents.

Cut off the thieves hands . As they do in China in Egypt.

Problems resolved.
