COQUILLE, Ore. -- A grand jury in Coos County indicted a 28-year-old man on
a murder charge in
the death of Leah Freeman, who was 15 years old when she was killed a decade
ago.

Freeman disappeared in the Coquille area in June 2000 and her body was found
five weeks later in
a forest 9 miles away from her home.

Coos County authorities announced in January that they had appointed a "cold
case" squad to
investigate the death. In June, Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels said he
was confident police
had identified a suspect.

Nick McGuffin, Freeman's former boyfriend, was arrested Monday. His bail was
set at $2 million.

The Coos Bay World newspaper reported that more than 100 witnesses testified
at eight grand jury
hearings in connection with the case. Freeman's mother told the newspaper
that McGuffin and her
daughter dated for about eight months before she disappeared.
