A northern Kentucky soldier has pleaded no contest to felonious assault in
the beating of a
homeless man with a baseball bat and pipe.

Hamilton County court and prosecutors' officials said 24-year-old Pvt. Riley
Feller, of Union,
entered the plea Tuesday to one count of felonious assault.

He was released from jail without bond to await sentencing Sept. 2.

Feller was charged with two other soldiers and another man in the April 10
beating of 52-year-old
John Johnson, who was sleeping under a bridge.

Prosecutors said the 52-year-old Johnson suffered a facial fracture in the
attack.

All four men had ties to possible white supremacist groups, investigators
said.

Police said the four may have been in town for a scooter rally near the
Holiday Inn Express on
Mitchell Avenue and may have been drinking before the attack, and they said
the men chose Johnson
at random because they wanted to "kick somebody's butt."
