How is the right way to tossing ball?

Hi,

To all Juggling pro. I'm new in juggling. Up to now can only juggling
with
three balls (the standard cascade), and still working on at the 4
balls
fountain asynchronous.

Just a bit curious at how is the right/best hand position when tossing
ball. Any advice on this?

Regards,

Eddy

Depends on the size of the ball and how high you need to throw it.
Generally, I think you want the throw to be as relaxed as possible.

Rather than worry about the throw, I would suggest that posture is a more
important concern. Keeping yourself supported, in good alignment and with
good arm position will prepare you for good throws.

Good advice, like always, Steven. These are probably the two basic keys in
throwing or hitting in all sports or activities. Relaxing as many muscles
as possible and just having enough tension in the right muscles to control
the throw should be the goal. Many times, we are literally fighting
ourselves for the right level of control. That is why we get tired when we
are first learning something, then after we get past that learning stage,
it seems so effortless, comparatively.

Proper alignment is what Anthony Gatto recommends and is a master of
doing. His footwork is amazing. It's not something not commonly thought of
with juggling, but it's importance shouldn't be over-looked. In tennis,
it's talked about all the time, but the same principle applies to
juggling. If you are properly positioned under the pattern as much as
possible, the throws will take care of themselves. Reaching for a catch
should be the last resort. Bending for a catch will likely cause you to
throw from an unstable position. Thinking of having steady base and
relaxing as much as possible would be a good mantra. Part of the relaxing
as much as possible would be breathing in a natural way. So many of us
forget to breath when we are pushing our limits.

Ok. And I'll keep that in mind whenever I practise:)

Indeed. It makes me laugh when I see people advising others to not move
their feet while juggling. That's just a simplified rule for competition
meant to make control over a pattern easier to rate. Sticking feet to the
ground doesn't necessarily make the juggling better.
